Wolverton

Wolverton’s falling out a window, a halo of glass falling away around him.  He hasn’t planned further than this point, but gravity provides one overriding compulsion.

There’s a momentary shock as his descent intersects with someone’s washing line.  It holds momentarily until a mooring breaks.  He reflexively grabs at the rope, tumbling wildly as it tangles in his coat.  He thumps painfully into the far side of the alley, then falls the last meter and a half as the other end of the line gives way.

Winded, Wolverton fights free from blouses and knickerbockers before staggering painfully away down the alley.
