Spiros had been contacted by Shen, who had in turn sourced Wolverton.  Those in the quantum occult don’t advertise, but rumours and half understood stories seep out nonetheless.  The way Spiros put it, Shen had heard one of these mangled tales and was looking for someone like Wolverton.

The job was pretty simple, on paper.  Not that there’d ever been any paper that had the job on it of course.  The 49s just wanted a locksmith, someone to get them a key to a mathematical lock.  A simple invocation of Shor’s Sieve would do it.  Of course, nothing simple ever is.
