Wolverton

She continues: “Shen didn’t show after your job.  We didn’t see him until two nights ago.  I sent a couple of guys to his apartment where they catch him picking up a book.”

Comprehension comes to Wolverton, hard and bitter.  “Then what?”

“Then he shivs one and outruns the other.”

Wolverton curses his assumptions.  He lowers the revolver; he’s come to a decision.

“How much would Shen be worth to you?” Wolverton asks.

She laughs. “How about the bullet I’d be putting into you otherwise?”  She smiles brightly and adds, “Provided that I still get my key, of course.”

“Of course.”
